Feast Week during a pandemic? Not in its full form but, for a short while this summer, normality returned and the spirit of Feast Week resonated once more around Hilton. Massive thanks to everyone who turned out to help, support and
enjoy the activities that we were able to provide this year.
Feast Week has always been a celebration of our community which is why the committee was keen for it to go ahead in some format, even if the uncertain lifting of Covid restrictions made planning very difficult. Out of this necessity Feast Weekend was born!
A shortened event yes, but we tried to provide a flavour of Feast Week to remind everyone what we’ve all been missing. It was so uplifting to see Hiltonians, old & new, come out in force to join in with the festivities. In short order the Cricket Pavilion was transformed into the ‘Under the Sea’ bar, tents went up and contributions flooded into the Art Show. Both the Cricket & Sports Day pressed ahead successfully, despite the threatening weather, and it was fantastic to see so many houses displaying their ‘Under the Sea’ creations. Rain moved the Teddy Bears’ picnic inside the church and there were lots of soggy wet Pirate Treasure Hunters spotted around the village but the weather kindly held for Tea & Cake.
Thanks go to lots of people who stepped up to make this a community event for all but in particular our two local bands – Tomb Raiders & Prince of Les – for being the centrepiece of Saturday evening entertainment, along with the ever wonderful Eclipse Disco. Having such fantastic quality live music really made the event.
Although some longstanding favourites like the parade, produce show, bingo and Songs of Praise weren’t able to happen this year we plan to have them back as part of a full Feast Week programme in 2022. Fundraising evenings will also hopefully be back soon. Watch this space!
The AGM for Feast Week is on Wednesday 8th September, 8pm at the Prince of Wales, Hilton. Do come along, meet the committee, have a drink and hear about plans for the year ahead. Volunteers are always welcome to join the committee, to be a friend of Feast Week and /or help at fundraising socials or the main event.
